Festival of Remembrance 2011 Poster

The fifth annual festival will be both a thought-provoking and enjoyable evening, an opportunity for the local community of Cradley Heath to remember and honour those who have lost their lives in conflicts on our behalf.

It is hoped the festival will be attended by The Worship the Mayor of Sandwell and other civic dignitaries, members of the emergency services, Baden-Powell troops and members of the armed services.

The festival will conclude at approximately 8:45pm after a short remembrance service and tea and coffee will then be available.

The festival features the Cradley Heath Salvation Army Band (Bandmaster Rob Westwood-Payne) and Voices in Harmony Choir (Music Director: Stephen Bradley).

The Band is an integral part of the life of The Salvation Army church in Cradley Heath.

Cradley Heath Band was established in 1881. From church and Salvation Army platforms to civic parades; from street corners to concert stages, this innovative band has shared its unique ministry with others. The band is very much involved in the life of Sandwell and Dudley boroughs, providing music for many civic, church and cultural events including the annual Songs of Praise service and Remembrance Day services. This 13 member volunteer band is conducted by Bandmaster Rob Westwood-Payne and participates every Sunday in the worship services at Cradley Heath Salvation Army Corps. The band also provides several special concerts each year as well as Christmas carol playing on the streets of the boroughs of Sandwell and Dudley.

The Choir is of mixed ability based in Cradley Heath, having about 70 singing members. Their aim is to introduce all people to the joys of singing as a Choir both sacred and secular compositions. Their members, both male and female of all ages, meet to develop their knowledge, skills and techniques and sing for their own pleasure.

They hold about 6 Concerts a year, the majority of which they do to raise funds for Charities and local good causes. To date, the Choir has raised just over £50,000.
